MassBike and the Vision Zero Coalition: volunteers wanted for World Day of Remembrance at the State House

MassBike and the Vision Zero Coalition need volunteers to help tell legislators about World Day of Remembrance and the road safety bills before them. Two ways to help: Monday, Nov 9, 5:30 to 7 pm, printing and assembling packets at MassBike (50 Milk St, 18th floor); and Tuesday, Nov 10, 10 am to 3 pm at the State House, as a meeting buddy who walks people to legislators' offices, at the check-in table, tracking office visits, or taking photos (shifts 10 to 12 and 12 to 3). No experience needed. Sign up for one or both days on the coalition's form.

Shift Rate is the share of trips taken actively (walk, micromobility, transit). Counts cover November 1 through today, based on trips logged by Shift community members that start or end in Boston — a growing sample, meant as an interesting local signal, not an official or census-level count. *CO₂ avoided is estimated from active miles traveled (EPA 404 g/mi baseline).

Where Boston moves

New to Boston? You're joining a town that moves — neighbors logged 31,240 trips on foot, by bike, and on transit in the last 90 days, and Massachusetts Avenue, Somerville Community Path and Commonwealth Avenue are where you'll find them. A corridor appears only once three or more different people have traveled it — and it follows Boston residents wherever they go, including into neighboring towns, within about six miles of the town center.

  1. New to Shift: stretches of this route are mostly traveled by people who joined Shift in the last 90 days.

What is this?

Shift is a free app from Green Streets Initiative, a Somerville nonprofit since 2006, for finding better ways to get around. Every walk, bike ride and transit trip people take with Shift adds to Boston's totals on this page. Shift counts trips on its own.
