Fresh Pond Loop
Circle Cambridge's 155-acre reservoir on the paved perimeter path. Fresh Pond Reservation is one of the city's best-kept secrets — a paved loop through woods, wetlands, and open meadow, no street crossings, minutes from the Red Line. Start and finish at the main entrance off Fresh Pond Parkway.
Numbered pins are the roam's stops; gold rings are bonus stops. Check in at each stop in the Shift app to complete the roam.
The route, leg by leg
Fresh Pond Reservation entrance → Little Fresh Pond Dog Beach
0.54 mi · ~11 minHead north along the paved perimeter from the main entrance. Shaded tree cover, wide enough for walkers and cyclists side by side, and the reservoir opens up on your left within the first few minutes. The path bends west toward Little Fresh Pond and its dog beach inlet.
Little Fresh Pond Dog Beach → Cambridge Highlands (northwest)
0.37 mi · ~7 minNorth along the western shore. Quieter section with wetland views as the path curves around the northwest corner of the reservation, heading into Cambridge Highlands.
Cambridge Highlands (northwest) → Cambridge Highlands (north)
0.25 mi · ~5 minEast across the north shore. The reservoir's deepest water is on your right, and the path stays well inside the reservation — Concord Ave hums distantly to the north.
Cambridge Highlands (north) → Return to entrance (loop complete)
0.32 mi · ~6 minSouth along the eastern shore back to the entrance. The longest stretch of open water views as the path traces the reservoir's edge to close the loop.
