Three local activists are set to be honored by the Cambridge Public Health Department at the first Golden Shoe Awards Tuesday evening.
Janie Katz-Christy will be honored as founding member of the Cambridge Green Streets Initiative, a city-wide grassroots organization which, for environmental, health, safety and and community building reasons, created monthly Walk/Ride Days.
City Councilor Henrietta Davis will receive a shoe for her service as Chair of the Transportation, Traffic, and Parking Committee. Davis is also as a founding member of the Cambridge Walks Campaign; a Member of Walk Boston; and the Author of numerous council orders promoting walking and safe sidewalks.
A shoe will be presented to the entire Community Development Department will be honored for timing traffic signals to minimize pedestrian waits, encouraging pedestrian-friendly design of new developments, and promotional activities that include Go Green Month and publication of Getting Around in Cambridge.
