Green Streets in West Bridgford, Nottingham, England

Walk/Ride Days in West Bridgeford will be kicking off in April, 2009. In the meantime, beginning in January, 2009, much planning will be taking place. Here is an update from our partners "across the pond."

GS logo no words The year has started with a bang and has shaken many schools, businesses, councils and other parties out of early hibernation,  as since we had our first meeting in the beginning of January, bus companies, cycling groups, printers and designers have got involved to get West Bridgford's Green streets  launch in April off to a good start.

We have our first sponsors, Belle and Jerome and Taste, two coffee shops as well as Celebrations a gift company. Every month from April there will be a bike rides to useful  and interesting places starting in our town as well as walks and try outs in Nordic walking. Dr Bike will come and check bikes out for free to set people up for the coming year and we even have a pedal powered smoothie maker to pedal us through the summer days.

After they have been handed a backpack with useful cycling, walking and bus information, Stiltwalkers  dressed up as Green Eco Fairies and a Unicyclist will be taking the children to school. Even the police will use their bike that day!  Nottingham City Transport, our local bus operator is going to sell special travel cards so no excuse to hop in the car on the 24th!

April's Walk/Ride Day Kick-Off!

Recently we informed you of the West Bridgford, England addition to the Green Streets family.  After months of planning and collaboration, West Bridgford successfully celebrated their first Walk/Ride Day!! A local primary school took Wrday1 surveys and saw a 77% participation rate among students! The school also sold 100 Green Streets buttons on that day. Retailers from around the community offered special sales and freebies as well. A variety of transportion modes were utilized. Everything from stilts to scooters!
